The Real One Ocean Seafood Restaurant at Mandai

Remember the post on Zhi Char Gem in Toa Payoh I posted back in December 2013? The answer is probably no. Well, that was my sincere review when One Ocean Seafood Restaurant was located in Toa Payoh (TPY), before it was sold to a new management team in 2015. The change included the main chef, which is the most important factor of a restaurant. I have read some reviews on Facebook after they changed their management team and gosh, the new management team at TPY seemed to be doing a bad job, damaging the good old reputation of One Ocean Seafood though they added a 'New' in front of the old name - New One Ocean Seafood Restaurant 新天翼海鲜....but who will notice that?!

Good news is, the old management team has re-opened the real One Ocean Seafood Restaurant at Mandai Connection! What? Mandai?! Previously I already complained about the "ulu" (secluded) TPY industrial location and now they opened their new restaurant in Mandai??!! Good news for people staying in the North-West, bad news for me who stays in the North-East as I need 30min to get there by car.

There are five different bus services 160, 170, 178, 960 and 961 between Kranji MRT to Mandai Connection, 5 stops away from Kranji MRT station. Car park, with ample spaces, is also available at Mandai Connection.

Upon reaching Mandai Connection, I observed that there are two different spaces - One Ocean Seafood Restaurant and the other half is a coffee shop under Ocean Group.

Bagus Yong Tau Foo (Halal) and Drink Stall

The coffeeshop on the right opens in the day for the industrial workers at the area, while the restaurant opens till 10.30pm.

The new restaurant is slightly smaller in comparison with its previous space at TPY. I was glad to see familiar faces of the old management team and the manager who can speak Cantonese, which my grandma favours as he is very courteous and patient. One more good thing is that drinks will be in the same bill so you don't have to pay separately again (drink stall was managed by another owner in the old location).

Menu (using the old menu from TPY as the new one is not ready yet, will update when new menu is available on my future visit)

We ordered five different dishes for the five of us, including blackcurrant pork chop, red spotted grouper and salted egg fish skin. Read my previous blog post for other good dishes recommendation with pictures!

3 Eggs Spinach 三皇蛋芫菜 - Okay~

Blackcurrant Fried Pork Steak (Pork Chop) 黑加仑煎肉扒 - Recommended

Red Spotted Grouper 红斑鱼, Yummy and Fresh! - Recommended

Feasting with my family

The restaurant was pretty empty when we were there at their first week of opening as they hadn't started advertising. Hopefully they will gain back the old customers and attract new customers in the new area. The food standard was the same as before, of course I'm comparing this to the days before they changed management. Trust me!! I wasn't paid to do any food/travel blog posts as I do it for my own personal interest. Thus, there will not be such thing as 'Quote LynneChua for a X% discount'. Hahaha. Give it a try and let me know how it is. If it's bad, I will probably go for a taste-bud checkup. =p

Can't wait to go back to taste my favorite Teriyaki Beef Cubes, Yang Chew Fried Rice, Roasted Duck with Yam (YUM YUM) and 黑胡椒鹿肉 Black Pepper Venison. Not forgetting the awesome 辣椒螃蟹 Chilli Crab with fried buns!!

  1. May I know the price of eating there? Is it related to One Ocean at 7 Mandai Link Mandai Connection #01-06 Singapore 728653?

    1. Depends on what you order. I would say it's about the same price as normal tze char. Crabs and fishes are quite expensive. If you want fresh fish, similar to other restaurants, avoid Monday as markets are not opened on the weekends so it probably won't be as fresh. :)
